Irrational Games Holding Event in August, New Game Reveal Likely

It’s been almost three years since the first BioShock was released, and we still don’t have any idea of what Ken Levine’s next project will be. That’ll likely change next month, though, as Irrational Games has sent out a “save the date” to announce an event planned for August 11 in New York City, where Levine’s new game will likely finally be revealed.

As you can see in the image above (via Joystiq), there’s barely any info provided here, other than the date, city, and a promise that “details and formal email invitations” will be sent out soon. Still, while it doesn’t mention anything about a game announcement, it’s hard to imagine what else this event could possibly be for other than to reveal “Project Icarus,” the codename for BioShock creator Ken Levine’s new game that’s been in development for about three years now.

So far, all we know is that this new project will be a new IP, so don’t expect a sequel to any of Irrational’s earlier franchises (BioShock, System Shock, Freedom Force, etc.). Other than that, your guess is as good as ours. Literally, in fact — Irrational Games recently put out a request for fans to call in to their voicemail and leave their best guesses about what this new game will be.

For Gnomeregan! is where the members of <B.L.O.G.> on Shadow Council (US-RP-A) roleplay guild meetings as part of an in-blog and in-game RP campaign. The rules for this campaign are: no ERP (Erotic RolePlay) and no vampires (though death knights are welcome). Everyone is invited to participate. Assume that to get into the guild, you at least pretended to be in full use of your faculties and are willing to fight for the cause. You are all welcome to join us here in the comments and those who wish to play with us in-game should friend Peenk and ask for an invite on Shadow Council (US-RP-A).

Thank you for coming to this emergency meeting. Our representative with Operation Gnomeregan has contacted me with the news that many new refugees are about to arrive at Coldridge Valley. They have requested that we accommodate them by incorporating the refugees into our guild and feeding them.

Hands Springsprocket has also contacted me. It seems that he needs to get a large number of supplies to Thunderbrew Distillery. So we are not only going to allow these refugees to join us, we are going to put them to work. And then we’ll sit down and have a party, to relax and welcome our new members.

I know this is short notice, but we must mobilize! Meet at the Coldridge Pass in Coldridge Valley at 9 p.m. on Tuesday. I will give further instructions at that time.

EVE’s Sansha live event takes an interesting turn

On the 11th of May, CCP announced that they’d be bringing live events back to EVE Online. Later that day, the first event was set in motion with the apparent leak of private CONCORD police documents into the hands of players. The documents hinted at a Sansha NPC military build-up, and suggested that Sansha’s Nation was behind the reported abduction of a Ducia Foundry expedition team. Events rapidly escalated, with players breaking the news that Sansha fleets had begun attacking the populated worlds of the four empires and abducting citizens in the tens of thousands. The most worrying part was that the navies of the four empires were unable to respond in time as the Sansha fleets were using wormholes to enter their target systems.

During the first few days of the event, locator agent traces on key Sansha slave actors between attacks revealed their presence in a system named 3-CE1R. This was quickly written off by many EVE players as a roleplaying inconsistency as that system is within the Jove Empire. Jove space is currently unreachable as the mysterious and technologically advanced race decided long ago to cut the stargate connections between their empire and the rest of New Eden. When random wormholes through space began spawning after the Seylinn disaster, none appeared to connect to Jove space. This led players to believe that the Jove Directorate possessed some form of control over wormhole formation, able to at least block it from occurring in their systems.

The next few weeks are going to be extremely busy for gadget fans. All reports indicate that the Nexus One — also known as the Google Phone — will be officially unveiled on January 5, 2010 at a Google press event.

Android not striking your fancy? Well Apple will be holding their own media event on January 26, 2010 and some reports suggest that the illusive Apple tablet — perhaps named the iSlate — will be unveiled. Already we’re hearing predictions of 10 million units sold the first year for a product that doesn’t even officially exist yet!

With two potentially huge announcements from two high profile companies, we want to know, what product are Mashable readers most excited to see, the Google Nexus One or the Apple iSlate?
